Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal information The Serger Edge may receive, why it is used and the choices available to you.

Who is responsible for your information

Stephen Igweh is the publisher of The Serger Edge and the controller responsible for personal information handled through this website. Privacy enquiries can be sent to contact@thesergeredge.com.

Information that may be collected

  • Messages you send: your email address, name if supplied, message content and any related correspondence.
  • Free-guide requests: the email address you provide, the guide requested, the date and time of the request, delivery status and limited source information needed to operate and assess the request form.
  • Marketing preferences: whether you separately chose to receive emails from The Serger Edge, when and how that choice was recorded, and any later unsubscribe or withdrawal request.
  • Newsletter preferences: your selected topic interest, signup source, confirmation status and the consent wording in force when you subscribed.
  • Guide activity: when an interactive guide is displayed by Heyzine, Heyzine may process technical and usage information such as an IP address, browser or device details, pages viewed and interaction events under its own service settings.
  • Essential technical information: hosting and security services may process an IP address, browser or device details, requested pages, date and time, and security events needed to deliver and protect the site.
  • Third-party activity: if you follow an activated affiliate link, the destination seller or network may collect information under its own privacy policy.
  • Pinterest advertising measurement: after you consent, Pinterest may receive page, referrer, device and interaction information through its tag so advertising performance and audiences can be measured.
  • Google Analytics: after you consent, Google may receive page views, page URLs, referrers and browser or device information through its tag to produce site-traffic and content-use reports. Its first-party cookies may distinguish visits.

The site does not currently provide user accounts or public comments. Google Analytics and Pinterest remain blocked unless you actively accept optional cookies. Pinterest automatic enhanced match is not enabled, and neither tag is configured to receive names, email addresses, telephone numbers or form fields.

Why information is used

Messages are used to answer enquiries, investigate corrections and maintain an appropriate record of correspondence. Essential technical information is used to operate, secure and troubleshoot the site. These activities rely on legitimate interests in publishing and protecting the service, steps requested by you, or legal obligations where applicable.

Pinterest advertising measurement is used only with consent to assess campaign performance, understand visits to relevant content and record interest represented by a disclosed affiliate-link click. You can withdraw that consent at any time through the site's “Cookie settings” control.

Google Analytics is used only with consent to understand aggregate traffic and content use. The Google tag uses measurement ID G-VL30RSF652 without Google Ads, advertising personalisation or cross-domain tracking. You can reject or withdraw the shared optional-cookie choice at any time through “Cookie settings”.

Free guides and service emails

When you request a free guide, your email address is used to provide the resource and deal with delivery problems. The delivery email is a service message sent in response to your request. It will not contain affiliate promotion or enrol you in an ongoing email campaign.

The lawful basis for processing this information is the legitimate interest in responding to your request and making the requested resource available. Only information reasonably necessary for delivery, security and troubleshooting is collected for this purpose.

Optional email marketing

You may separately choose to receive The Serger Edge Notes, a fortnightly email containing serger tips, troubleshooting guidance, new research and relevant product resources. This choice is optional, is not required to receive a free guide and must be made through a separate unticked consent option.

The lawful basis for these communications is consent. You may withdraw consent at any time by using the unsubscribe link in an email or contacting contact@thesergeredge.com. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that was lawful before withdrawal.

Newsletter signups require an unticked, affirmative consent box before ongoing emails begin. The submission time, source and consent wording are recorded. Topic selections are used to understand reader priorities and may be recorded as preference tags. They do not trigger sensitive profiling or significant automated decisions.

Sharing and international processing

Information may be processed by website hosting, security and email service providers acting on our behalf, or disclosed where required by law. The Serger Edge uses Systeme.io to process form submissions, record preferences and deliver emails, Heyzine to display interactive guides, Pinterest for consent-based advertising measurement, Google Analytics for consent-based site measurement, and Namecheap Private Email for direct correspondence and support.

Some providers may process information outside the United Kingdom. Where required, appropriate contractual or legal safeguards are used to support those transfers. Personal information is not sold or rented.

Retention

Guide-request records without separate marketing consent are normally deleted within 30 days after delivery, unless a longer period is reasonably needed to resolve a delivery, security or legal issue. Marketing contact records are retained until consent is withdrawn, the information is no longer needed or deletion is requested, subject to any information that must be retained by law.

A minimal suppression record may be retained after an unsubscribe request so that the preference can continue to be respected. Enquiry correspondence is normally retained for up to 24 months. Technical logs are retained according to the relevant provider's operational settings and only for as long as reasonably necessary.

The site's cookie-consent preference expires after six months. Visitors with a choice recorded before Google Analytics was introduced must choose again. The Serger Edge does not retain its own event-level copy of Pinterest tag data. Aggregated campaign reports may be retained for up to 24 months, while Pinterest controls retention within its systems and Google Analytics data is retained according to the property's settings and Google's policies.

Security

Reasonable organisational and technical measures are used to protect personal information. No internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure, so information should not be submitted through the site if it is not necessary for the relevant request.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, UK data protection law may give you rights to access, correct, erase, restrict or object to processing of your personal information, and to receive portable data. You also have the right to withdraw consent where processing relies on consent.

To exercise a right, email contact@thesergeredge.com. You may also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.

Automated decisions

The Serger Edge does not use the personal information described in this policy to make solely automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects.

Children and changes

The site is not directed to children under 16 and does not knowingly seek their personal information. This policy may be updated when the site's services or legal requirements change. The date above identifies the latest published version.
